How this directory is built

We think a directory is only useful if you know exactly where its information comes from and how old it is. Here is the full picture — including the limitations.

Where the listings come from

The base layer is the public Google Business profile of every currency exchange business we could find across Singapore — 344 listings across 37 neighbourhoods, collected in August 2025. From each profile we use the name, address, phone, website, opening hours, rating, review count and the business's own description. We filter out pawn shops, banks, remittance-only counters and other businesses that appear in the same searches but don't change cash over the counter.

Because that snapshot ages, every listing page states its source date. We refresh the dataset periodically, and anyone can report a change — corrections ship in the next site update.

The MAS licence check

Money changing in Singapore is a licensed activity under the Payment Services Act, regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. We cross-reference every listing against the MAS Financial Institutions Directory (Money-changing Licensees and Major/Standard Payment Institutions, fetched August 2026). Currently 285 of 344 listings match a register entry (241 exactly by name, the rest by close correspondence), and each match links to the official register entry so you can verify it yourself.

Important: a listing without a match is not necessarily unlicensed. Shopfront names often differ from the registered entity name (a counter trading as "Ah Seng Money Changer" may be registered as a differently-named Pte Ltd). Where we can't match automatically, we say so neutrally — and licensed changers display their licence in-store.

Exchange rates

The rates on this site are mid-market benchmarks — the midpoint of global buy and sell prices, fetched live from Exchange Rate API. No money changer offers exactly mid-market; the point of showing it is to give you a fair yardstick for judging any posted board. Where we publish observed shop rates, each one is a dated spot-check of a physical rate board, clearly labelled — never an offer, and never sponsored.

What we don't do

  • We don't take payment for inclusion, ranking or descriptions.
  • We don't process transactions or handle money — we're an information site.
  • We don't accept sponsored "best rate" claims from any business.

Who runs this

SG Money Changers is run by a small independent team based in Singapore. The site is supported by advertising, which has no influence on listings or descriptions. Reach us any time at hello@sgmoneychangers.com.

Corrections policy

Wrong hours, a moved shop, a closed counter, a licence we missed — tell us and we'll verify and fix it in the next update. Business owners can request corrections or removal of their listing at no cost.
